 Added a new website to the Local Links page. RSHS-Alumni.Org by Randy Smith and Thomas Pangborn is a great place to get together with the old gang. They are considering adding a room just for the Marching Raiders.
08/06/05 Beware the nasty guestbook spammers! I've made our guestbook a static page. I have to add new entries manually, but we won't have to see the porno spammers anymore. There are numerous links to the original guestbook page, so if you find one with the 'bad stuff' let me know, but otherwise the guestbook should now be a safe place to visit again. Corrections have been made to the recently updated 1980 Performances page. A dozen plus names added or corrected thanks to the efforts of Marching Raider History Cathy Wiggins
07/17/05 The Marching Raiders' 1980 Season has been updated! Sixteen pictures have been added, and the original three have been rescanned. Remember to click on the images to view photos at their full size. I've locked down the guestbook, so spammers can't ruin it anymore. The downside is that it will take longer to add new entries to the list. The delay in seeing changes to the guestbook will only be a day, so don't be discouraged from signing in. I know there are several who visit the site who haven't signed, so get on the list today!
07/15/05 Nothing like taking 6 months off, huh? The (not so new anymore, but still great) job has kept me away much longer than originally anticipated, but I haven't lost interest in this site by any means! I apologize for the recent 'glut' of internet losers posting porn links in our guestbook. I'm planning to make the guestbook a 'view only' page, and I'll add the new entries manually then. I still have lots new pictures to add and have begun receiving promises of even more, so I'll have to get back down to business soon! Hope Your Having a GREAT Summer!

and... Our Parents for providing the film, cameras, and in many cases, actually taking the pictures that can now help us remember those heady hay days of high school. RSHS's Class of 1984 for making my 20 year reunion so much fun that I decided to create a website for my high school pictures, because in doing so, I came to realize my marching band memories deserved one of their very own. Cathy Wiggins Parker (class of 82) for being such a huge help! Cathy's pictures have been great and she provided the 1979 judge's tape, but most of all I thank her for her knowledge of the Marching Raiders; Cathy is the Marching Raiders' Resident Historian, especially for the late 70's to mid 80's. Deon Cranford (class of 97) for his website, which is loaded with Marching Raider data. Wendy Snipes Wright (class of 85) for delivering to me many scanned newspaper clippings and photos from the '82 and '83 seasons. I know getting those items together was very time consuming, but they are a great addition to this site. Larry and Ken Harrelson (classes of 83 and 86) for saving our horn line mascot, Freddie 'First Place' Frog, from a trip to the county's landfill. Jimmy Smith, father of Karen (class of 80) and Pam (class of 83), as well as being The Voice of the Raiders, for recording his famous introduction of the Marching Raider Band, so we could all enjoy it again. Michelle Davis Byrne (class of 84) for a scrapbook with photos, newspaper articles, memorabilia, and the promise of more to come. Kay Leviner (class of 86) for photos, memorabilia, and volunteering to be our Safety Monitor. Aldo Simmons (class of 85) for photos, classmate info, and the promise to dig out those old scrap books he and his sister, Alicia (class of 83), have from our band days. Gay Garris Rhyne (class of 81) for several key photo identifications and a promise of photos and memorabilia in the New Year. Mrs. Coleman, mother of Stephanie (class of 79) and Cindy (class of 82), for providing the longest list of contacts to date and for her excitement about this site. Joey Davis (class of 83) for photos, newspaper items, and various band festival programs from 1980-83. April Dawkins (class of 89), RSHS Media Specialist, for adding our link to the official Richmond Senior High School Website under the band section (Organizations>Cultural>Marching Band). Nicki Moore, RSHS Media Specialist, for giving me access to the school's yearbook archive. William Mercer (class of 80), for a newspaper picture of the 1979 Homecoming Parade. |
